How to redeem an Apple gift card on iPhone

These are the iPhone steps from Apple's support page, written for a code you received online.

1. 1Copy the code from your order page with Copy. Apple's redemption codes have 16 characters and begin with "X".
2. 2Open the App Store and tap your photo, your initials or the My Account button. Sign in to your Apple Account if you are asked.
3. 3Tap Redeem Code.
4. 4Tap Enter Code Manually, paste the code and follow the instructions on the screen.
5. 5Tap Redeem. The funds are added to your Apple Account balance.

Redeem on iPad, Mac or a Windows PC

On an iPad or Apple Vision Pro, Apple lists the same steps as on iPhone.

On a Mac

Open the App Store and click your name in the sidebar, or click Sign In first. Click Redeem Code, then Enter Code Manually, and follow the instructions on screen.

On a Windows PC

Open the Apple Music app or the Apple TV app. Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then Redeem. Follow the instructions and click Redeem again to finish.

Which region to buy

Apple's country rule

Apple's troubleshooting page is clear. If you see a message that the code must be redeemed in another storefront, the card was bought for another country or region, and Apple does not let you redeem it outside that country or region. Apple's own example is a card bought in France that can't be redeemed in the App Store in the United States.

Your Apple Account has one country or region. Apple's page on changing it says you should spend your remaining balance first, cancel subscriptions that block the change and have a payment method for the new country. Buying the card that fits the account is far easier.

Apple Gift Card or App Store & iTunes card?

Apple describes several card types. An Apple Gift Card can be redeemed in the App Store for apps and subscriptions such as Apple Music or iCloud+, and can also be used for products at an Apple Store or apple.com. App Store Cards and App Store & iTunes Gift Cards are redeemed the same way in the App Store. A solid-colour Apple Store Gift Card is different: Apple says it can't be redeemed in the App Store or iTunes Store.

How that maps to our cards

Open the card for your Apple Account's country, for example Apple USA, Apple UK or App Store & iTunes India. The Redeemable in line names the country, and the Terms tab carries the card's own conditions. We can't move a card to another country once it is delivered.

If the code doesn't work

The messages Apple lists

• Card is not valid. Apple says to check that it isn't an Apple Store Gift Card, to enter the code manually, and to watch for look-alike characters: B and 8, D and O, E and 3, G and 6, O and Q, O and 0, S and 5, U and V, Z and 2.
• Card has already been redeemed. You may have redeemed it yourself. Apple suggests signing out of the App Store on all your devices and signing back in, which refreshes your balance.
• Card is not activated. Apple says the seller may not have activated the card.
• Code must be redeemed in a different country or region. The card and your Apple Account belong to different countries. Apple does not convert it.

What to do on our side

Press Copy on your order page and paste the code; that removes the look-alike problem. If the code still fails and the card's country matches your account, contact our support. Send your order number and a screenshot of Apple's message, never the full code. Under our Refund Policy, an invalid or undelivered code is reviewed when it is reported within 48 hours of delivery. A card bought for the wrong country by your own selection can't be refunded, and redeemed codes are final.
